Corn, corn, everywhere

The other day, I was lounging in the tub, reading Omnivore's Dilemma, thinking that it might be quite a challenge to try living without consuming corn* for a year. I could blog about it, then they could make a movie about me, a la Julie and Julia, and I'd be rich and famous.

That's why we do social activism, isn't it?

Anyway, I casually look over at my bath salts, and there it is. Zea Mays. Corn. In my bath salts.

I give up already.

*Fresh picked sweet corn eaten directly off the ear wouldn't count. That actually IS food.

I had the same idea about eating nothing but medieval cooking for a year, and I got as far as a single bookmark, and then I lost all momentum. But I was thinking the dark-haired stepsister from Ever After could play me in the movie? Either her or Dakota Fanning. :D

One of my HS friends has a daughter that's allergic to corn!

Corn Syrup, HFCS, Corn Starch, ..... it's in everything. I'm doing my best to be HFCS-free, but that's not very easy either. It's in everything too. I've picked my ice cream sandwiches because they have the lowest HFCS content of any out there. *sigh*

Corn Starch is probably the most used filler around. It was lactose, and then somebody pointed out to "them" that lactose-intolerant folks were a large part of the market! (it amused me that for a very long time, lactose was the filler in Immodium .....)
