You're not really an LJ'er until you post about your cat

The boys are doing better, and we didn't get what they had. At one point, I was afraid we'd have take Eddie to the ER for dehydration, but he *finally* accepted a juice box, when NOTHING else would make him happy.

However, daycare is still not on the list of things they are happy about.

Facebook is kinda fun, but I'm not sure why I signed up when I don't even have time for LJ...

I keep getting requests for little applications like pillow fights, best friends, celebrity death match and such. They're all from friends, but I don't really know what they are. If I click accept, it says that the app will import/take my profile info. Are these a security risk? Can anybody give me a short explanation? Please don't be offended if I don't accept these, at least not for now.

I had one of those recurring dreams the other night that I hadn't done my homework. Trouble is, I woke up, and I really *hadn't* done my homework. Eek! I also totally forgot about class last night until four o'clock in the afternoon. I could have easily let it slip my mind. Next think you know, I'll have forgotten my locker combo, shown up to school naked, and realized that it's time for my final in a class I didn't know I'd signed up for. Ai!

My cat is a little love slut. She's SO snuggly. She just wants to be ON your lap. Always. Well, except for when the boys are awake, and then she's usually down in the basement. She tolerates them reasonably well, having little to no experience with kids before. Henry is in LOVE with her. He's totally gentle and patient, too, so I have hope for them becoming friends.

My one concern before her arrival was her interaction with the bird. Cat was curious about bird. Cat went in bird's room. Bird not impressed with Cat. Bird squawked and flapped wings obnoxiously. Cat ran. Cat won't go anywhere near Bird's room.

If you've been over to our house, I'm guessing you'll sympathise with Cat. I needn't have worried.

I don't know about those Facebook apps either. I generally just ignore them. If people are offended by that, well, they haven't said so. :)

Kitty AWWWW.

Lady I worked with had a parrot and two cats. She would set the parrot down on the floor, and the parrot would walk around saying "HERE, kitty kitty kitty! HERE, kitty kitty! Kiss? *smooching noise* Kiss?" The cats PANICKED. They always treated this event as the arrival of Satan, and teleported out of the county whenever it happened. I think the bird is probably fine. :)

[identity profile] laracorsets.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, That is a riot! I would have loved to have witnessed the bird calling the cats!

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Kali used to talk to birds. She'd sit in the window, and cacklet outside at them. Those were just outside birds, not cornered parrots, though. I had thought she'd take an interest.

Now, George (bird) will meow at us. He's never lived with a bird once, but Jeff had a friend who taught him how to meow. It's a bit weird.

Yeah. George is a parrot. A cranky parrot. And Kali is a little kitty.

I ignore the Facebook application invites - they're mostly "games" that I don't have time for and many of them people get things for sending the invite, whether you accept it or not I think. *shrug*

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, ok.

[identity profile] laracorsets.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
ignore all that silly stuff on facebook, it's just nonsense. The people who are sending the invites are not notified if you do not accept and it's ok for you no to.

Some of the games are fun but who has time for it all? I played a few at the beginning. Now I just check once or twice a day to see if any of my friends are up to or posting anything interesting.

ah, cats and birds.... I remember when the Ex moved in with me and brought his double yellow Amazon. My girl cat looked at the bird then looked at me with such joy. I could hear her thoughts being sent to my brain "oh Mommy, you got me a bird! I have always wanted one! You are the best Mommy ever!" Then she and the bird came face to face and the bird nipped her paw and chased her down the hallway. Pooka (the cat I still have) had a similar experience with bird. Bird was perfectly safe with the cats, the cats had to beware of the bird!

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I got one that was a "best friends". I was wondering if it was like a boost filter? Like you'd be certain to see all of their updates and such, when the rest just got cluttered? I with they'd come with better explanations.

[identity profile] caoilfhionn.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Many of the apps are like digital trading-card games. You send little pictures or whatever around. There's no harm in ignoring them. There are some that are more game-like. My friend got me into one called Knighthood, in which you build a castle and then try to take over others' territory--it's more like a real game. But if people can't handle you refusing to play, then they're a wee bit oversensitive about Facebook.

I don't know about the risk factor. I've wondered myself.

[identity profile] belfebe.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Like others said, those apps are pretty much games. The problem with downloading them is that pretty soon you will receive notifications every time someone plays with them. At least in some sorts of apps. I generally ignore them, not because I am trying to be rude, but because I have no time for it.

Facebook is different from LJ in that it's not a blog. Basically, it's a good way of staying in touch with people quickly, and some use it to post pictures. :-)

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't been on long enough to see what people write. I was debating with myself how much and what to post. I wouldn't mind if those people came over to LJ. If they're my friends, they're my friends. If I'm uncomfortable with people from my past, well, that's what filters are for.

[identity profile] belfebe.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You usually post inconsequential stuff such as: "Mathilde is sipping green tea" "Mathilde needs to take a nap" etc.

You can also tack an RSS feed from your LJ to your Facebook, whereas your public posts will appear on FB. However, if you are uncomfortable with other people from your past finding more about you, I would counsel against it.

The thing that has made FB so popular is that it is very impersonal. Not like LJ at all.

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Which seems odd to me. How am I really keeping up with friends if all I tell them is that I'm sipping green tea? I think I'll try to find a bit of a balance.

[identity profile] belfebe.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. Facebook is still a mystery to me, but it is still entertaining. :-)

[identity profile] lorebubeck.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea for cat posts! =) How are the alregies to Cat going in the household?

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not too bad, so far. I think I was more allergic to Leif, because when I was living with the ex my allergies kicked in when he arrived. (Leif, not the ex). I've noticed that my eyes are a bit more itchy, but not bad yet.

I need to sit down and brush her well. I think it's been a while for her - she's shedding like crazy and very fluffy right now.

[identity profile] mare-in-flames.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo! GET A FURMINATOR! Honestly. I thought they were a $%#! scam, but they get a LOT of dead hair out of my tigers, and make them a lot more pettable (i.e. soft AND you don't get loose fur on your hands when petting them).

[identity profile] alienor.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded on the furminator. If you want to try it first, I can bring mine over to a sewing day.

[identity profile] greta-k.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Been to your house. Met Bird. Sympathize with Cat.

[identity profile] noxcat.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Bigger birda are uaually more than a match for a housecat, bu the smaller ones aren't. I had a roomate who had a parakeet that she insisted on keeping in the living room on a coffee table. My cats loved sitting on either side of the cage and swatting at the bird as t came closer to their side to get away from the other cat. The bird even nipped a paw once. It barely slowed the cats down. We eventually convinved her to keep the bird in her room.

[identity profile] aeliakirith.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no big deal on the invites. I try to limit invites to the pillow-fight, drink-sharing, whatever games to people I think will be interested. I'm also playing Knighthood, and you do get stuff for inviting people, even if they don't play.

And, no, I won't be hurt if anyone doesn't accept.

[identity profile] jljonsn.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't go ripping on my bird. He's a total sweetie. He's just easily startled and takes him time to warm to people.

And he Meows better than the cat.

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no. You have me all wrong. I'm very impressed with Bird. In fact, I was thinking that we should move him closer to the steps as a guard, to keep her from yowling at our door all night. We could put him up on the balcony, in fact!

[identity profile] greta-k.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Who needs a guard dog when you have an alarm bird? Parrots do a very good job of alerting their owners if there's an intruder.

And yes - I've heard the Bird meow. Impressive. I still sympathize with the Cat, though ;-)

[identity profile] kevindharner.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
and he dive bombs bald people! (Burt)
ext_99415: (catwoman)

[identity profile] woodwindy.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a total sweetie.

I'm... uh... not entirely positive those are the exact words I would have used to describe your bird.

:D

[identity profile] jljonsn.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
C'mon, he LUVES getting the scritchies! He'll sidle up to the bars and say "Scritchie scritchy". He'll snuggle under my chin, and nibble my collar.

And he will do this for other people, if you take the time to get to know him. He's just not a slut who puts out for anyone the second he meets them (like the cat). ;)

[identity profile] lorebubeck.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps if her were in a more central location where he could "meet" folks easeir. I forget you even have a bird cause you hide it away! (Ignore that thornbury!)

[identity profile] reabhecc.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
On facebook, once you accept an app, you can control how much access it really gets (used to be under edit applications...)

I installed battleboats, wordscraper, and a couple other word games; mostly I pay against college friends, and a friend in Northern Ire. and I are in a constant run of games of battleships.

yay kitty!

[identity profile] dragonlady7.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I ignore the Facebook apps because what with people I know from previously and people I know through roller derby, there are waaaaay too many people on that list for me to follow all that stuff. A lot of them are just cutesy things that people send out. I don't think it notifies them if you don't accept, though, so I just leave those things off to one side and pay them no attention.

I now include Facebook in my catching-up set of tabs in my browser: I check email, then check LJ, then look at the "status updates" pane in my Facebook homepage. The status updates are nice because it's just little micro-updates and you can skim down pretty quick.

LOL @ the bird. Never kept birds, and that's why-- I can't cope with anything scarier than a cat!

[identity profile] usagi629.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
ditto... I usually ignore most of the apps... a few of them I've found interesting enough to play with, but most of them (if not all) are just time-wasters... and it isn't going to offend anyone if you ignore their requests... they're just playing the 'game' and the games always want you to get other people to play so that's all it is...

[identity profile] usagi629.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
haha.. yeah that bird scares me!! :P haha.. I was scared to feed him, so I made Seth do it all but once when we were there.. haha

I'm happy to hear that Kitty is doing well in her new environment!

[identity profile] cbellfleur.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's hilarious that the bird can meow!
Never had a house bird, but plenty of times I've seen the cat "kak kak" at the outside ones thru the window.

(Cat pictured above is currently curled up in the chair next to me, paw over face, sound asleep.)
-End obligitory cat post. :-)

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd been hoping they'd chat, but, well... :-D

[identity profile] thornbury.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't see any comments relating to what I was going to comment on. But it's all good.

[identity profile] chargirlgenius.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, ok. Since when has that stopped anybody?

[identity profile] thornbury.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
My comment was more adolescent, and when your husband passed it up, I figured I'd just let it slide. ;-)

[identity profile] sskipstress.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple of the apps I play with give me extras for inviting people. I probably won't invite you to any of them, but if I do I won't be offended (or even know) if you ignored the invite.

I collect people on Facebook. No one I actively don't want to keep in touch with, but a whole bunch of people that I haven't kept in touch with otherwise. I'm not very active on FB, a lot less active than I am here, but I sometimes comment on what other people have posted, sometimes update my status, and sometimes use their not-quite-im thing to catch up with people who happen to be on FB at the same time I am.

[identity profile] norayn.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've found Facebook to be a great way of staying in touch with folks that aren't on LJ. I even found one long lost friend from high school, which I appreciated. No one who'se on FB with me is on my LJ so it works out great. They are all happy with a short post here & there.
