Lacing update
Feb. 16th, 2009 08:50 pmIt works! Whoo hoo!
To be more specific, I did hidden side lacing using rings on my new dress. I was concerned about gaping, so I ended up putting each ring right next to each other, no gaps. I'm glad I did, because I think if they were any further apart it would have trouble holding together. The rings are right up at the edge of the fabric, and sewn most of the way around, so there's little to no problem with the fabric pulling out and apart at the edge.
When I get it laced completely tight, from the outside, it looks like nothing more than a seam. That was the goal. Getting it laced completely tight is going to be the tricky part. Lacing under the arm is a big PITA. My best bet is to leave it completely laced but loose, and just tighten it up. Easier said than done - I'm going to need a LONG lace. Well, two, one for each side. Even with that, I think it'll be easier if I can get help with my lacing. Luckily, perfection won't be necessary if I'm wearing it under something else.
Getting in and out of it is ok, for now. It currently has no sleeves and no skirt. Once the sleeves and skirt are on, well, we'll see.
I know a picture is worth a thousand words... I'll get to it. For now, off to get fingerlooping!
