A couple of the apps I play with give me extras for inviting people. I probably won't invite you to any of them, but if I do I won't be offended (or even know) if you ignored the invite.
I collect people on Facebook. No one I actively don't want to keep in touch with, but a whole bunch of people that I haven't kept in touch with otherwise. I'm not very active on FB, a lot less active than I am here, but I sometimes comment on what other people have posted, sometimes update my status, and sometimes use their not-quite-im thing to catch up with people who happen to be on FB at the same time I am.
