Planning fail

Yep, we don’t pre-reg unless we have to. So sue me.

Yesterday, after I made the post that I’d be taking Eddie to Sapphire, he came down with a fever. He’s just grumpy and feverish, not really sick, but Jeff stayed home with him today. Henry was coughing a lot upon waking, so he stayed home too.

If there’s a boy that’s well by Saturday, I’ll bring him along and stay for most of the day. If not, I will come down, deliver my Sooper Sekrit Project, and head back home relatively quickly.

Biking

I was worried last night that I’d have to drive in, to take Henry to daycare, since Eddie was staying home. But since they’re both home, I rode. I was feeling wussy about yesterday – the temp said 42 in the morning, but by the time I’d have gotten onto the road, it was around 50. And the afternoon was glorious, so I missed a perfect day. Jeff might be renting a bobcat tomorrow, so I’ll have to drive then, too.

I’m doing a bit better. I made it up the big hill in the second from lowest gear, instead of my usual lowest gear. Yeah, I felt like I was going to die at the end of it, but then again, I feel like I’m going to die even in the low gear. So it’s all good! I have been leaving it one gear higher on some of the other hills, so I think I’m getting stronger. Slowly, bit by bit. By the end of summer, I won’t be breaking a sweat.

Every morning when I’m riding over the precipice of the hill (our driveway hill, that is), I just want to let the brakes up, to coast down, to bomb it at breakneck speed. And then I think, “today is not a good day to die.” Because really, that has a good chance of ending in death.

It was chilly this morning – by the time I got in my toes were freezing. I must have looked like a sight with my kludged together warmth. My whole kit is mostly made up of stuff that I’m making do. Start with the bike that kind of fits me, makes a ton of noise, and gears slip all of the place. My helmet was chewed by the dog, because Helena let the boys play with our adult helmets, leave them out, and Rose would chew them. I at least have my spiffy panniers. I wear my Converse sneakers, because I don’t have real bike shoes, and I <3 my Converse. For warmth this morning, I found an old red headband (goes great with my orange safety vest), and dug out a pair of Isotoner leather gloves. Hey, it worked… :-D

Yeah, I want to upgrade everything, but there’s something kind of appealing about making it work with what I had.

Liquor Fail
We’ve been growing mint out on the deck, and Jeff picked up a bunch of limes the other day. You know what that means! Mojitos!

Jeff mixed it all up, and we took a taste. Bitter. Strange. Almost too alcoholic. (is that possible?) I thought maybe it was the quinine in the club soda, so we just added more sugar. Enough sugar, lime, and mint, and it’ll taste okay.

Come downstairs in the morning, grab the bottle of liquor off of the counter to put away.

It’s vodka. THAT would explain it!
