They’ve been testing the fire alarms in our building all day. JOY. Instead of subjecting myself to that, I’ve been listening to the iPod rather loud, likely destroying my hearing. At least I’m enjoying myself.

Occasionally, songs come along that stop you in your track, and you just have to close your eyes and listen. I’m sure that everybody knows what I’m talking about.

Today, it was Bach’s Prelude, which I have from the Master and Commander soundtrack. Usually, it evokes images of tall ships on high seas, and I always love it. Instead, I had a very different image fed to me, very clearly, by my subconscious. I saw Eddie playing, a larger version of himself, but still with his little boy features. Somehow, it wasn’t ridiculous, but it made sense that it was him, just older. He had his serious, concentrating expression on his face, and made the cello sing like a deep baritone voice.

Maybe someday. I think Eddie has it in him. Henry? I don’t think he’d sit still long enough. :-D

Last night, we dug through the boys’ clothes, looking to see what we need and can give away. I *still* have some 3/6 month stuff, even. Oof. I’m sending four (diaper-sized) boxes of stuff to my sister for my nephew. We have a lot of shopping to do, though. Henry’s taller than Eddie, but Eddie has a longer torso. That boy’s legs need to grow!

We also gathered and catalogued a box full of our own stuff to go to Goodwill. Now, just to get there…

There's all sorts of music that I enjoy. It always depends on the day and what shows up in the shuffle. :-D

Hah. Around here, Goodwill has trucks in shopping center parking lots every weekend for drop off, so i don't even have to go as far as the actual Goodwill. I've had two boxes of stuff ready to go for over a month. Guess where they are? Front closet. :)

Alia has been singing along to songs she doesn't know. If I am singing along in the car, I have a little echo in the backseat, and she follows the notes pretty well, for not knowing the songs she is singing!

As to the stuff, not sure if you have freecycle in your area, but then you can make people come to you to get stuff... If you don't have time to get to Goodwill, that is. Now, will you come do my house, too?

Last year, it sat around the house until Dec. 27th, when Jeff took it in along with everybody else in the county. With Freecycle, I don’t think you can claim the tax deduction. :-D

Eddie does that with the guitar. I could have probably made the same post about any Clapton song. :-D

True, no tax deduction... but it gets stuff out easier! :)

Hm, he likes Clapton, she is partial to Andrew Lloyd Webber - not sure if we should get them together or keep them apart! :D

Which Bach Prelude? I like the lute and piano ones better than the cello ones.

Prelude from Suite no.1 for unaccompanied cello.

Eddie's a guitar kid. Might translate into cello. :-)

I love the cello one because this deep instrument sounds suddenly lighter than air, and like there's three different melodies going, with just one player. I don't know the lute and piano ones off the top of my head.

I have that prelude on my computer and cell phone. One of my favorite pieces. I once listened to a CD of Yo Yo Ma playing it (as he does on the M&C soundtrack), imeediately followed by listening to Pablo Casals play it, near the end of his life. Same piece of music, but it sounded so different. Lovely, either way.
