Heh. I’m not the only one to be asking “What is ‘Main Street’?”

Fresh Air from WHYY, October 8, 2008 • Much has been made of the effects the recent financial crisis will have on "Main Street." Linguist Geoff Nunberg Geoff Nunberg discusses how this term gained such popular — and presidential — usage.

(it’s just a six minute piece)

I’ve been reading much more about sprawl and New Urbanism, lately. Veddy veddy interesting.

Oh, and completely unrelated, a healthy dose of Scott Joplin sure does wonders for an off day. :-D

...the other political buzz-word is:

Working Families

It just has a nice warm-and-fuzzy ring to it. Which of course politicos LUVVVV!

It's not even a political buzz-word to me any more – I hear it everywhere, from both sides, on the news, on the Marketplace Morning Report, everywhere. People have this idealized vision of what America is, when we’re not building any more Main-street like businesses anymore. Modern zoning laws make the traditional Main Street *illegal* in most places!
