I don't have an official announcement written up yet, but I'll be organizing an Artisans Row for Storvik Novice Tourney/Challenge of the Heart, on the weekend of June 20th.

For those of you who don't know, Storvik and Dun Carraig are getting together to host a joint event this year, which I think is a fantastic idea. The site is Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, MD, the same place where Jeff's vigil was last summer. Hopefully it won't be so hot, this time around!

I'll be putting out the call for tents and who will be setting up once things are a bit more firmed up, but I thought I'd give a head's up to all y'all on my flist to start thinking about it. In a nutshell, Artisans Row gives you an opportunity to work on your craft throughout the day, in more of an active display instead of a competition. I liked it as a chance to sit and geek with fellow artisans in a laid back atmosphere. Artisans of ALL levels are encouraged to come out and play.

More details forthcoming. Wanna come out and play?

Wow. You are seriously fast.

At very least, we'll have our tent, with chairs and benches.

Sure! I am planning to go as long as my parents aren't visiting that weekend. I will probably be sewing, or knitting, or possibly making trim for clothes for Pennsic.

I remember that one. Worst equestrian event evar, although my hour with you-all was wonderful. The Atlantian cavalry needs quite a bit more fiber in its diet. :) I don't appear to be booked that weekend, although if they do have equestrian, it might look like an interkingdom snub if I show up and don't ride... but this really sounds like fun. Aaaaaand I am getting a canvas pavilion, so I could use it there!

I remember that. Even beyond the awful heat... Come on down and work on horse barding or something! It's still themed... ;-)

That's good news for more than one reason. It's a great site to have horses at in October - but last year in the summer, my horse was *visibly* uncomfortable from the heat and the air quality. It was just not a day on which I would have chosen to ride him at all, period. For horses, Patuxent is a "spring and fall" site, as far as I'm concerned.

I said the same at storvik Barony meeting with the Storvik Autocrat there. I WILL however encourage the autocrat of Storvik Baronial Birthday in September to organize Equestrian Activities.

Do you happen to know the prospective date? Because Sept. 25-27 already has two equestrian events stacked against each other with most of the Atlantians set on doing Glengary in WV.

(The other will be my poor, pitiful event in NJ. I think *everyone* is doing Glengary instead of NJ...)

Certainly no guarantee. But not hearing "it HAS to be the last weekend of September" is a good start. Leaves them room to work around it. Yay!

That might be fun. Maybe we should come back for that instead of 4th of July/[livejournal.com profile] dyderich's birthday. Maybe my parents will watch the kiddos.

I am thrilled to hear this! We did move the date up in some small part to escape some of the heat. Last year, I had a number of people come up to me and tell me that they were sorry, but they just had to go because they were just too hot. I agreed, and said I'd have left too except it was kind of expected that I hang around [g].

There tends to be at least one tent's worth of musicians, heavy on harps. I can arrange that they set up near Artisan's Row if you would like.

That would certainly be a good tent to have in the row!

I've tossed some thoughts about location to Khadir, but I don't remember the site well enough from last year to think about where there could be space. There needs to be a balance - the row does the best and is most effective when it's centrally located, yet we do tend to take up space. At Challenge last year, we were right around the field, but that space is at a premium, I know. Was there much room between where the field was and the merchants were located? I was playing around with the idea of creating a "street", with artisan tents on both sides, merchants at one end, so some merchants could be part of the row *and* part of the shopping area.

Not being the autocrat, I can't make those decisions for her. But it sounds very nice, and might help funnel more people down to the merchants. We're trying to set up an informal brain storming get together but I don't think it has been nailed down yet. If nothing else, we have to work with Molly and Erwin to get our joint schtick worked out and see how it fits in with whatever the schedule ends up being. (Can you tell I'm trying not to step on any toes?)

Was there an artisan's row last year? I was stuck in the vigil reception area the whole time, so I just don't remember.

I'd love to make cheese. Would you have enough room for me to set up with a table and cooking fire source? If we have our pavilion roof done we can bring that for shade.

That would be an excellent demo!

I'll ask the autocrat if ground fires are allowed, otherwise, can you use an alternate heating source?

We'll make room for that. :-)

I've got both a propane stove that can sit on a table top or a West Kingdom fire law compliant fire pit, it's raised approximately 18 inches above the ground.
