Lily pictures are forthcoming, but in the meantime...

We start with braies and chausses (or hose). The chausses are pointed, or tied, to the braies. This is more of a 14th century style on an adult, but for a child it is MUCH easier to deal than full joined hose pointed to a doublet.

The chausses are a bit big, but they're for growing in to.

Over all of that, he wears a white linen shirt to protect his clothes from his skin and vice versa.

He wears a simple tunic over that, as it's easier for visits to the privy, but can you tell he really wants a doublet? Mama'd better get on that.

He now puts on his gown, belt, hat, and pattens. Again, he should have shoes, but we're too cheap to buy shoes for them every year.

Such a ham.

I'd like to try this again when taking more time...

We'd toyed very briefly with the idea of getting a sitter for them for this event, but I had the gowns, and there was no way we could let them miss it!

Thank you! Although, I'll agree that I'm crazy. They keep growing out of stuff!

(This gown *should* fit for a few years. Even above the knees, it'll be accurate.)

Wonderful! Henry and Eddie both looked so cute yesterday! I'd really like to do more of this for Tommy. I would have loved to make him a new outfit for the event but I just didn't have time. I'm not sure what our next event will be but maybe I'll work on something new for him in the next month or two.

You might consider snagging a copy of this book http://www.oxbowbooks.com/bookinfo.cfm/ID/17676 among other things it has a David and Goliath from the mid-15th century with David wearing a coat like the one you see on the younger boy in the altarpiece of the seven sacraments.

Should have shaved the back of his head and you could do leather footed hose, not sure if they are in use this late but they were earlier.

I was thinking about the leather footed hose, and maybe I'll do that still. He'd have to wear pattens anyway, though, and the hose don't usually wear out before he grows out of them.

By accident in my awesomeness I came across this in a 15th century School book from England, (modernized)

Many children wear no shoes till they be at least 12 or 13 years old. Whose feet by long continuance of time be so hard that though they go over thorns, briars and sharp stones yet they feel no pain.
